Hide your WhatsApp DP from selected contacts
Use the Profile photo privacy setting and choose My contacts except… to hide your WhatsApp display picture from selected people in your address book. The selected names are the people you exclude. Other saved contacts remain eligible to see the photo. If you want to hide it from everybody, choose Nobody instead.
First decide your intended audience. Hiding a picture and choosing a new picture solve different needs. You can keep the same DP while changing who is allowed to view it.
Find the profile-photo setting
- Open WhatsApp Settings. On Android, open the three-dot menu to find Settings; on iPhone, open the app's Settings area.
- Open Privacy, then Profile photo or Profile picture, depending on the label shown.
- Choose My contacts except….
- Select the saved contacts you want to exclude and confirm the selection using the control shown in your version of WhatsApp.
- Reopen the setting and review the excluded names before leaving.

This is an illustrated guide, not a live WhatsApp screenshot. WhatsApp's profile-photo help confirms the privacy path and available audience choices.
Choose the audience that matches your intent
- Everyone: allow any WhatsApp user to see your profile photo.
- My contacts: allow people saved in your address book.
- My contacts except…: allow saved contacts except the names you exclude.
- Nobody: hide the photo from all other users.
These meanings come from WhatsApp's privacy settings guide. For an exclusion-based audience, saving more contacts can affect who is eligible to see the picture. Review the setting when your contact list changes.

Check that you excluded the right person
Our suggested check is to compare the selected contact's number with the intended person, especially where names are similar. If appropriate, ask a trusted included contact and a trusted excluded contact to check what they can currently see. Treat that as a practical check alongside the saved setting, rather than as a promise of instantaneous refresh on every device.
If an included contact still cannot see the photo, review your privacy choices and contact syncing. WhatsApp also lists temporary connection problems and blocking among possible reasons profile information is missing. A missing DP by itself does not identify which explanation applies. See its profile-information troubleshooting guide.
Common questions
Does this block messages or calls from excluded contacts?
The choice described here controls the profile photo audience. WhatsApp describes blocking as a separate control for messages, calls and statuses. Use the control that matches the outcome you intend.
Does profile-photo privacy also choose my Status audience?
WhatsApp lists profile photo and Status as separate privacy settings. Review Status separately if you also want to control who sees those updates; selecting a DP audience is not a complete review of every privacy option.
Can I see a list of people who viewed my profile?
WhatsApp says it is not possible to see who viewed your profile. Do not interpret the absence of a visible photo as a profile-view report.
How do I choose a picture that still looks good in the circle?
Browse our WhatsApp DP collection, then use the DP upload and crop guide for a clear result. If you want an illustrated style, our anime DP ideas explain another visual option. Picture choice and audience settings can be reviewed independently.
